Sanchez’s story: from Social Care Worker to Deputy Manager

A career in care is about more than providing support – it’s about making a meaningful difference every day.

Since joining Choice Care Group at just 18 years old, Sanchez has progressed from a Social Care Worker to Deputy Manager, developing his skills and confidence along the way. Inspired by his Mum’s dedication to care, he’s embraced every opportunity to learn and help people live fulfilling lives.

Here’s Sanchez’s journey so far

What inspired you to join the care sector?

From a young age, I have always found joy in helping others and seeing my mum work in the care sector inspired me to follow in her footsteps. Watching the positive impact she had on people’s lives showed me how rewarding a career in care can be. Her dedication and compassion motivated me to pursue a role where I could make a meaningful difference and support people to live fulfilling lives.”

What do you love about your job?

“What I love most about my job is being able to make a positive difference in the lives of the people we support. Although I am not on the floor as much as I once was due to my management responsibilities, I still take a hands-on approach and enjoy spending time with the people we support, helping them do what they love and bringing positive energy whenever I can.

“Showing compassion, providing encouragement, and supporting people to achieve their goals is incredibly rewarding. Seeing positive outcomes, whether that is increased independence, personal achievements, or simply knowing someone has had a good day, gives me a great sense of job satisfaction. Knowing that I have played a part in improving someone’s quality of life is what continues to motivate me and makes me passionate about working in the care sector.”

How have Choice Care supported your career progression?

“Having joined Choice Care Group at the age of 18, I have been fortunate to have many opportunities to develop both personally and professionally. I started my career as a Social Care Worker and, over the years, completed my Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas. Last year, I achieved my Level 5 Diploma, which has significantly contributed to my professional development and provided valuable insight into the managerial side of the sector.

Throughout my journey, I have progressed through a variety of roles, including Social Care Worker, Team Leader, Assistant Manager and now Deputy Manager. I am currently supporting the management of Stroud Lodge, which has been a real privilege and has given me the opportunity to further develop and refine my leadership skills.

Choice Care Group, alongside the support and guidance of my manager, Helen, has enabled me to grow and succeed throughout my career. The opportunities I have been given have helped me remain motivated, driven, and level-headed, and I am committed to continuing my learning and development in the future.”

What are your career goals for the future?

“I want to continue developing in my role and expanding my knowledge and skills. Although I have gained a great deal of experience throughout my career, I have always maintained the mindset that there is always more to learn. I believe that continuous learning is essential in the care sector, and I remain committed to growing both personally and professionally.

I am excited to see what opportunities may arise in the future and am open to taking on new challenges when the time is right. While I am ambitious and eager to progress, I have always believed in the importance of timing. Rather than rushing into the next step, I prefer to develop at my own pace, ensuring that I gain the experience, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in any future role.

For now, my focus is on continuing to support and develop Stroud Lodge, strengthening my leadership abilities, and making a positive difference to the people we support and the colleagues I work alongside.”
