Heronsmede is a spacious, detached home, with an integrated bungalow, in Old Windsor near to the River Thames, three miles from both Staines and Windsor town centres. The home provides support for eight men and women with moderate to severe learning disabilities, autism and associated complex needs, all of whom are non-verbal.
Accommodation includes four single bedrooms on the first floor of the main house, and four more in the bungalow. Residents have plenty of communal space, including two lounges, a dining room, computer room, sensory room, kitchen and three bathrooms. In addition, both lounges lead onto a large, safe, level, open garden.
Heronsmede has its own Day Activity Coordinator, who develops individual and group activity programmes, including music and arts and crafts, tailored to individual needs. Residents also have access to nearby community, leisure and educational facilities, including the local colleges, shops, parks, leisure centre, horse riding, pubs and restaurants. As well as regular public transport the home has its own vehicle for local travel and trips further afield.
