Schizophrenia is a chronic mental health problem that affects one in every hundred people. Onset of schizophrenia typically occurs between the ages of 15-30 and it affects both men and women. It is a chronic mental health disorder that can be treated effectively with the use of therapy and/or medication. There are a range of different psychological symptoms which can affect the individual’s perception of reality. These may include hallucinations or delusions. Hallucinations are most commonly auditory but can also affect the other senses. Other symptoms include paranoia and disorganised thinking or speech. Schizophrenia is often co-morbid with other conditions including depression or anxiety disorders.
