People lead happy and fulfilling lives at Penscynor House

DATE: 21.03.2023

Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) just published their Regulated Services Inspection report for Penscynor House.

CIW inspect services to make sure they are safe for the people using them. Penscynor House is part of our company in Wales - Care Without Compromise (CWC) - who joined Choice Care Group in March 2022.

Care Without Compromise supports people with learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions and associated complex needs and has its own clinical team with a particular expertise in understanding and supporting people who display behaviours that challenge.

We are so proud of the team at Penscynor House – here’s some of the fantastic comments the team received in the report:

People lead happy and fulfilling lives at Penscynor House. A relaxed atmosphere throughout the home helps people and visitors feel at ease.

The enthusiastic and professional staff team want to make a positive difference to people’s lives, where people they support are at the heart of the service. Employees demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the people they support.

Keyworkers ensure people are invited to contribute to their care planning review process and the staff team overall treat people with respect, and support them to communicate effectively: this enables each person to have choice and a voice.

Care workers feel well supported by the senior staff and receive training relevant to their roles. The staff team ensure people are fully involved in all discussions about their care. People are encouraged to make daily choices in how they live their lives and do things that are important to them.

People say they are happy in Penscynor House. They do things that matter to them and make them happy. Each person is very proud of their bedroom and clearly love the lifestyles they have developed. People get on with each other and help each other out throughout the day. One person excitedly said, “I’m going shopping for games next week.” Another person beamed and said, “I like it here. It’s nice".

Daryl Quarry, Director of Services, Wales at Choice Care says: This is one of the best CIW reports I have read in a long time! I’m really proud of the team.

Sarah Gwyn, Manager, Penscynor House says: I am beyond proud of the team here at Penscynor! they continuously put the people we support first and I really could not ask for more. The team really look after each other like one big family! It really is a lovely home to have the pleasure of managing and I could not be prouder of being a part of such a lovely home.
