Choice Care Group - response to Panorama broadcast on 22 May 2019

DATE: 23.05.2019

We were horrified and appalled to see the bullying and abuse shown from footage taken by the Panorama undercover reporter at Cygnet Health Care’s Whorlton Hall Hospital.

Service user outcomes are central to Choice Care Group and we take great care in recruiting suitable staff that will always treat our service users with the respect that they deserve.

In addition to maintaining rigorous internal controls to ensure that Choice Care Group provides a safe, nurturing environment for all of those in its care, all of our staff go through regular and comprehensive training to continuously improve their professional skills.  Furthermore, our regular Quality Assurance questionnaires actively engage all of our stakeholders including service users, next of kin and staff to monitor service levels.

We place a great deal of emphasis in drawing up personalised care packages, which are appropriate to the needs of the individual service user.  These care packages are supported by a Positive Behaviour Team and other external resources to enable a healthy, active and fulfilling life.  Strong leadership of our support teams by highly qualified and competent management ensure that care packages are implemented correctly.

We are proud of our small and high quality residential care homes and supported living services.  We actively encourage service users to become more self-reliant, to make decisions for themselves and, in many cases, to ultimately move on to more independent living arrangements.
