We celebrated Learning Disability Week across Choice Care from 19th to26th June, with the people we support taking part in many wonderful activities during the week.
The main theme of the week was Myth Busting and Mencap also themed the days of the week. With Tuesday's theme being Sport, we heard all about one of the people we support from Cambria House who joined a football club last year.
We also heard about the people we support at Ocknell Park who go to football at Totton Football Club every Wednesday. This activity has notably increased social skills and self-esteem of the people we support, who really enjoy going and look forward to it every week!
One of the people we support plays rugby with the Llanelli Warriors, a mixed ability rugby team. The team’s aim is to ‘provide rugby and rugby related experiences for adults with learning difficulties, whatever their ability.'
Wednesday's Theme was Employment and Internships. At Choice Care, we encourage people we support to gain employment and work experience.
One of the people we support at Penscynor House was proud to do some work experience on reception at our new offices, where she greeted visitors who came for meetings and gave a great first impression of the company! Another person we support from Oakley Lodge has just applied for a job at our central office supporting with admin for 2 hours a week – and we’re very excited to report back that he has got the job!
It was great to hear all the stories from the people we support across Choice Care – a true celebration of people with Learning Disabilities living the lives they want to lead.
