We talk to Vanya, Manager at Oakley Lodge who celebrates her 15th Choiceversary!
What made you decide to take the role at Choice are initially?
I had moved back to the area and saw a position advertised at Stoke Lodge. I used to work there when it was an older persons care home and thought it was this still. When I went to the interview I quickly realised it was very different and after having my interview I decided to give the role a go and see if I could work with young adults.
How has your role progressed during your time here?
I started as a Senior Care Worker in 2008 and then moved up to Assistant Manager, then Deputy Manager, to becoming a Home Manager in 2016.
What do you are you particularly love about your role?
I enjoy the variety, no two days are the same. I love the rapport I have been able to build with the residents and the working relationships I have focused on building with my colleagues and home staff.
How would you sum up working at Choice Care?
Great fun, challenging and mostly rewarding!
What did you do before you joined Choice Care?
I worked in elderly residential care.
Are your colleagues supportive?
Some of the staff I work alongside in Choice started before I did. As newer staff come in, they ask how I managed to stay in one company for so many years - and then they start working and realise it's all about the residents - we love what we do!
