Apprenticeship Week - our colleagues tell us their own stories

DATE: 06.02.2024

Emily from one of our residential homes in Gloucester tells us about her apprenticeship at Choice Care.

Can you tell us about your apprenticeship at Choice Care?
I’m studying Diploma level 5.

Why did you decide to enrol on an apprenticeship at Choice Care?
To enhance my career and show my daughter you can do anything you put your mind to.

How have you found the experience?
I have found the experience hard but rewarding, I know putting in the work and hours will lead to my ultimate goal of being a manager in Choice Care and showing my daughter that hard work leads to positive outcomes.

How does / did your apprenticeship work on a day-to-day basis?
My manager is an amazing support and spends the extra time with me to ensure I understand what is expected of a manager. She will give me jobs to do when I am stuck on a question, so I understand the question in a practical sense.

Do you think the apprenticeship is helping you on your career pathway?
Yes, definitely.

What are your aspirations for the future?

Once my daughter is at secondary school I hope to become a manager within Choice Care. When I have passed my qualification, I will be able to make this dream come true! I am so excited for my future and providing my daughter with more opportunities and helping her see that we can achieve our dreams with focus and hard work.

Would you encourage other colleagues to become a Choice Care apprentice?
Yes, it’s an opportunity to develop, and it’s a qualification which will only enhanced mine and my daughter’s life. My manager said we are the next generation of leaders and I am looking forward to the challenges in front of me.

What did you do before you joined Choice Care?
I cleaned hotel rooms.
