Dedicated Care Staff Brave The Elements
Managers at specialist care provider Choice Care Group have praised the efforts of staff who battled against the elements to get to work during the recent freezing weather.
Choice operates residential care homes for adults with learning disabilities, mental disorders and other complex needs in some of the areas of the UK which were hardest-hit by this month’s heavy snow, including Berkshire, Hampshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
But as roads and railways ground to a halt across the country, many care staff went to great efforts to reach work with some walking distances of up to seven miles to get in, while others stayed at the homes overnight, to ensure service users were cared for at all times.
Director of Operations Tracy Lanes said: “I don’t think I have ever known weather like it – it looked lovely but the novelty can soon wear off, especially when trying to drive in it.
“I would just like to say well done to all the homes and thank all staff for their commitment to keeping the homes running smoothly. There are a large number of staff across the group who virtually moved into the homes to maintain cover and ensure the service users were not affected by the situation.”
