By Royal Invitation
A resident at Choice Care Group’s Sunnyside House in Gloucestershire caused a stir before Christmas when she invited the Queen round for tea and cake.
Keen cook Jean Chapman bakes a cake for the staff and residents at the home every week and, as a big admirer of Her Majesty, wrote her a letter asking if she would like to pop round to sample her home-made Christmas cake and mince pies.
Unfortunately, the Queen’s busy schedule meant she was unable to attend, but Buckingham Palace sent a letter to Jean thanking her for her kind invitation and wishing her all the best for Christmas.
Although disappointed the royal guest could not make it, Jean was delighted that the Palace had taken the time to reply, and the letter will now take pride of place at the home.
Kuldip Bahia, deputy manager at Sunnyside, said: "We didn't expect a reply at all so it was such a nice surprise for everyone.”
