In designing new services, a key priority at Choice is to meet the specific needs of the people who will live there.
Recent referrals have included people requiring a bespoke living environment. These included Ben* and Tim*, two men with extremely complex conditions, who found living in a shared environment difficult.
In both cases, we designed and built an individual annexe, which meant that for Ben, this would avoid admission to inpatient services, the only other likely alternative and that Tim has a service designed for him that would support him as he entered the next stage of life upon leaving school.
By adopting this approach, we achieved positive outcomes for Ben and Tim and a more cost-effective and constructive solution for commissioners.
